The Zamfara State Zakat and Endowment Board has distributed the sum of N4 million as zakat collected during the last yaer ended 1438AH. The zakat is for the collection recorded at the Headquarters of the board in Gusau which also exclude Zakat from Gusau local Government Zakat and Endowment Committee.
This was made known by the Executive Secretary of the board, Mal Bashir Siraju Gusau at the flagging up of the distribution exercise at the boards headquarters yesterday. He said a total of 400 people from various categories of the poor and the needy were selected and would benefit with the sum of N10,000 each.
The executive secretary also disclosed that the board considers “those who write to the board requesting for zakat and those that could not write”. He also informed the large gathering that attended the event that the board has made the selection based on the 8 categories of zakat beneficiaries as stated in the Holy quar’an.
Earlier in his address the Chairman of the board Liman Muhammad Dan Alh Sambo who declared the ceremony open thanked all those who supported the board from the donors, board members to the staff of the board.
The Director of Zakat collection of the board Alh Ibrahim Tudu spoke on the trust reposed on the board by the payers of zakat which led to the huge success of zakat collection both in cash, farm products and livestock. He said: “this is the first time the zakat payers and beneficiaries are joined together at distribution event to show them how their zakat is being utilized efectively.
The annual zakat distribution will continue at all the 17 emirate zakat and endowment sub committees established and headed by their Royal Highness the Emirs of zamfara state.
