The Galadi Foundation which is a non governmental organisation in the state, rising from its Executive Committee Meeting of Friday, 3rd day of November, 2017 at which they discussed on the need to institutionalise the Zamfara State Council of Elders. At the end of the meeting the foundation released a communique commending the elder and promised to sponsor a private member bill to support their effort.
The communique reads: To start with, we sincerely commend the effort of the elders in providing truce and engaging all stakeholders towards amicable resolution of issues in Zamfara State. We are however of the firm belief that the elders would serve the society better if their activities are backed by the law, under which, their responsibilities, qualification, disqualification, powers, limitations, criteria for appointment and general modus operandi are clearly spelt out.
We consider as germane the need to reach out to all the relevant stakeholders and embark on massive public sensitization, enlightenment and awareness campaigns on the need to have that legal framework. On this note, a committee has been set up to discharge that responsibility. We are also strategizing to pay visit to some select Emirate Councils in the state and some key personalities with a view to attracting more support.
All things been equal, in due course, Bello Galadi Foundation will organize and sponsor a technical session of all stakeholders, including but not limited to MDAs, labour unions, CSOs, governments at all levels, traditional institutions, professional bodies, legislative and judicial agencies, religious bodies, security agencies, media houses etc, at which to galvanize and harmonize all ideas and come up with a common position that will be transmitted, in form of a Private Bill to the Zamfara State House of Assembly for onward passage as a Law. We view this as part of our corporate social responsibilities as citizens of Zamfara State.
We appeal to the general public to support us to achieve this remarkable fiat. We are determined to do much more good things for the betterment of the common man. The communique was jointly signed by the president of the foundation, Barr. Bello Idris (Turakin Galadi, Chiroman Batauna) and the secretary, Alh. Nura Mas’ud Dauran.
