Buhari orders military crackdown in Zamfara, battalion of Special Forces to be deployed

Following recent attacks in Shinkafi and Maradun and other rural villages in Zamfara State in which about 23 people were said to be killed, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a military crackdown on banditry and other criminal activities in the state.

According to a presidency press release on Wednesday, the presidential spokesman Garba Shehu also stated that the president has approved the Minister of Defense, Brigadier-General Mansur Dan Ali request for the deployment of a battalion of Special Forces in Zamfara State in addition to 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto.

According to the release the president also approved the transfer of the 1 Brigade of the Nigerian Army from Sokoto to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
